Environmentally Friendly Products

We introduce our proud environmentally friendly products that are both easy to use and less CO₂ emissions.

Non-Aluminum FUJIPAK

Non-Aluminum FUJIPAK

“Non-Aluminum FUJIPAK” is an “environmentally friendly” beverage carton that does not use aluminum for the barrier layer and can be stored for long periods at room temperature.

Using paperboard, which is a renewable biomass material, coated with barrier film, this product is more suitable for recycling because it can be collected through the same route as gable top cartons used for milk, etc.

Product Features

  • Features

    Use of barrier film

By using a film with barrier properties, this product has the similar barrier properties without using aluminum.

  • Features

    Long-term storage
    at room temperature

This product inherits the “long-term storage at room temperature” which is a feature of the FUJIPAK with aluminum.

  • Features

    Improved recycle rate

This product can be collected by the same route as beverage cartons used for milk, etc., so the recycle rate is expected to improve.

  • Features

    Improved recyclability

Since aluminum is not used, it is easy to process the residue (polyethylene) after cellulose fiber recovery.

Our Challenges

In general aseptic beverage cartons, aluminum is used to provide enhanced barrier against oxygen and moisture. Compared to conventional beverage cartons such as milk cartons, there are fewer routes to collect them, and they are often sent to incinerator instead of recycling. Due to the limited facilities are available for recycling them, the volume to be recycled has been small even if they are collected.

Therefore, we have developed a “non-aluminum FUJIPAK” that uses a film with a barrier property without impairing the feature of a carton with aluminum that can be stored for long periods at room temperature. Since aluminum is not used that this product is not subject to the Containers and Packaging Recycling Law. The identification mark under the Law for the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources is the “Paper carton” mark.

Environmental Issues
& Solutions

By being able to collect through the same route as milk cartons, we are contributing to an improvement of the recovery rate.

Comparison of CO₂ emissions

By shifting to non-aluminum FUJIPAK, 25%-CO₂eq / carton can be reduced.

  • FUJI SLIM for 200ml Aluminum specification: 38.9 g-CO₂eq / carton
  • FUJI SLIM for 200ml Non-aluminum specification: 29.3g-CO₂eq / carton
  • Calculated using "MiLCA v2.3" by Sustainable Management Promotion Organization
  • Calculated based on the 2021 recycling rate

School POP®

School POP®

“School POP®” realizes a straw less carton, which is in high demand in the portion pack size carton market such as school milk.

Not only reducing single-use plastics at everyday life, it is expected to raise environmental awareness from an early age.

Product Features

  • Features

    Easy-to-open and easy-to-drink design

Developed for school milk, School POP® is designed easy to open and drink for children. Children can drink with or without using a straw.

  • Features

    Contribution to food loss prevention

With a carton to drink with a straw, it is difficult to see how much is left, and it may lead to leftovers. With School POP®, children can see inside, which lead to drink all. We received comments that children can feel the flavor of milk and milk tastes better than drinking with a straw.

  • Features

Reduction of efforts to separate straws and plastic waste

Since children can drink without a straw, there is no need to separate it after use. It also contributes to the reduction of plastic waste, and school meals can be used as a material for SDGs education.

Our Challenges

When plastic straws became a symbol of the marine plastic pollution, we developed an alternative paper straw.

Furthermore, we have developed a “straw-free school milk carton” in order to reduce “single-use plastic waste” and to promote “SDGs educational effect” for children who bear the future of Japan at school. The reduction of plastics by using School POP® is of great significance in school meals where 1.4 billion plastic straws (700 tons as 0.5g per 1 straw) become garbage annually.

School POP® has won the Japan Star Award / Director of General, Manufacturing Industries Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the “2021 Japan Packaging Contest” in recognition of our measures for environmental problems.

Contribution to reducing CO2 emissions

We expect to supply more than 200 million School POP® in 2022, it is calculated that 100 tons of single-use plastic can be reduced.

SPOPS®

SPOPS®

SPOPS® is a unique product which replaces conventional “refilling” of shampoo, etc. to “replacing”. It reduces the hassle of the recharging, and recharging ends only by changing the cartridge by “Pull out, replace and push down”.

In addition, by using paper as the main material, the amount of plastic used can be reduced compared to conventional pouch containers, making it a container that is both “user friendly” and “environmentally friendly.”

Product Features

  • Features

    Reduced time for refilling

The product reduce the time to refill by up to 75%. With SPOPS®, just remove the pump, replace the cartridge, and insert the pump. It ends in about 30 seconds.

  • Features

    Reduction of disposable plastics

SPOPS® is made of paperboard, which is renewable material. Therefore, the amount of plastic used can be reduced by 25-40% compared to conventional pouch containers.

  • Features

    Compact and little liquid residue

Since the liquid collects around the nozzle, it can be sucked up efficiently and there is little liquid remaining. In addition, the cartridge is box-shaped for orderly and compact storage. The volume required for transportation is reduced by 45%.

  • Features

High functionality even with paper product

SPOPS® can handle a wide variety of liquids, such as high-concentration alcohol and surfactants that can penetrate with conventional paper containers.

Our Challenges

The idea was to “reduce the stress when refilling shampoo containers”. With shampoo in pouch, refilling work may take time and effort, and liquid may spill, which makes refilling “troublesome”.

SPOPS® was developed as a replaceable shampoo container that can be easily replenished with liquid from children to elderly people and has excellent storability. It is a new container that provides new value.

Environmental Issues
& Solutions

Contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions

Although it is difficult to simply compare with conventional pouch containers, it contribute to reduce CO2 emissions at the following stages.

  • Reduction of the amount of fossil base plastic by using paperboard as the main material
  • Improvement of transportation efficiency by changing container shape for increasing loading efficiency.
